BlackBerry KeyOne with a Snapdragon 820 and QWERTY keyboard

BlackBerry's next smartphone is the KeyOne -- a promising Android phone targeted toward people who prefer physical keyboards. The company just postponed its release date to after May.

BlackBerry's KeyOne is a promising Android phone targeted toward people who prefer physical keyboards, as well as BlackBerry's suite of secure apps

lackBerry kicked its own Rim Main system to the control a year ago in favor of the more popular Google android OS, and it no longer manufactures its own phones. But the Waterloo company isn't exiting the company anytime soon. Rather, Rim has partnered with Far east company TCL to release Android phones under the BlackBerry manufacturer. Its latest phone is the KeyOne, a traditional BlackBerry mobile phone with a full QWERTY keyboard

If you are ignorant, TCL manufactures telephones under the Alcatel brand. BlackBerry's first devices under the new partnership with TCL were the DTEK50 and DTEK60, which are rebranded Alcatel phones reported and released toward the end of 2016. Every of them carry the same software experience that includes the BlackBerry Centre, the DTEK security software, and the famed Blackberry mobile phones Messenger (BBM). The same applies for the KeyOne. What makes the KeyOne unique in comparison to the company's first Google android smartphone with a computer keyboard -- the Priv -- is the product's rate.

"In hindsight, it was probably not the location for us to punch off the first Google android device, " Bruce Walpole, basic manager of Rim Flexibility, told Digital Tendencies about the Priv. "If I actually was to express where performed we maybe misstep? Most likely the tier -- the product is still surface breaking due to slider but in aiming to be everything to everyone... anyone with necessarily best in category. in .
Unfortunately, BlackBerry may be having some issues with the KeyOne as it has just late the launch date.

Pricing and availability

The KeyOne was initially expected to arrive in April, but it now seems like you’ll have to wait a little bit longer if you want to get your hands on BlackBerry’s latest. During a recent earnings call, BlackBerry CEO John Chen announced the worldwide release has now been pushed back to after May, with TCL slated to begin production at the end of April. No further information on availability was given during the call, but at Mobile World Congress the company said the KeyOne will cost $550 in the U.S. and will be available both unlocked and from various carriers.

We’ll update this article when we receive final release date information

Something different

BlackBerry’s latest mantra is “Distinctly Different.” There are a ton of all-glass Android slabs on the market, but hardly any with a physical keyboard. The company understands that while there may not be many people that want a physical keyboard anymore, there’s still a market for it. It’s why the DTEK60 and DTEK50 exist as alternative choices for people who want big screens with BlackBerry brand name as well

For all you hardcore BlackBerry fans, the KeyOne’s unique quality is its backlit QWERTY keyboard with capacitive gesture capabilities, akin to the physical keyboard on the Priv. That means you can swipe up and down, left and right on the keyboard to move through your home screen, or even scroll through apps.

A fingerprint sensor is embedded into the space bar on the front of the device. We couldn’t test it out yet, but it’s a unique way of adding the sensor onto the front panel, rather than extending the bezel to accommodate it. Above the keyboard are capacitive navigation buttons that offer strong haptic feedback.

The device carries a rectangular shape that’s quite elongated due to the physical keyboard, but the screen — protected by Gorilla Glass 4 — is only 4.5-inches. It’s easy to hold with one hand, but it can be slippery at times. That’s in part due to the soft-touch textured back.

The KeyOne is a little chunky and it feels like a brick — that’s not an accident. The company was quick to remind me of the days when its devices were known for their durability. BlackBerry is confident the anodized aluminum frame that surrounds the phone will protect the device from most accidental drops.

There is a headphone jack and down-firing speakers. Sitting in between the speakers is a USB Type-C charging port. The power button is on the left, and the volume rocker is on the right above the Convenience Key. The Convenience Key, which is available on the DTEK60 and the DTEK50, is a customizable hotkey for specific apps or tools, such as the camera.

Speaking of customizable keys, KeyOne owners will be able to create up to 52 shortcuts with every key on the keyboard. For example, you can set a quick press on “I” to open Instagram, and a long-press on “I” to open your inbox.

It only comes with 32GB of internal storage, but there’s a MicroSD card slot that allows for expandable storage up to 2TB. It also has an NFC sensor, meaning you will be able to take advantage of Android Pay.

The front camera packs 8 megapixels, and it can take 1,080p videos at 30 frames-per-second with video and image stabilization. The rear camera has 12 megapixels (with large 1.55µm pixels), and it uses the same Sony IMX378 sensor as the Google Pixel. The camera took great shots indoors with decent lighting and there was very little shutter lag, but in low-light areas, some images were blurry.

A security-focused Android 7.1.1

The KeyOne runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and BlackBerry’s mobile team will continue to issue digitally-signed security updates for the device — including Google’s monthly security updates for Android.

t’s clear that even with the price tag, BlackBerry is not interested in the flagship tier for this phone. Still, for the processor it has the $550 price may be a little too high compared to competitor’s devices — you can get a phone with a Snapdragon 820 for as low as $400 after all, and last year’s flagships are seeing price cuts as successors are on the horizon.

From our brief tests, the KeyOne seems like a good smartphone — and it’s hard to find one these days with a solid keyboard. The price may be justified.

Highs

  • Runs near-stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat
  • BlackBerry is promising fast security updates
  • Physical keyboard has gesture capabilities
  • Solid build quality
  • Fast, smooth performance

Lows

  • Keyboard feels a little cramped
  • On the bulkier-end of phones
  • Slightly blurry photos in low-light

How to find missing AirPods with Find My iPhone

Missing an AirPod or two? Use Find My AirPods to track down those pesky buds.

There's no getting around it: the AirPods are small. It's what happens when you chop the cord off a set of in-ear buds; they don't have much mass, and if you don't remember to store them in their pillbox case, you may find yourself frantically searching for an earbud or two.

Thankfully, if you've accidentally misplaced one of your AirPods, iOS 10.3 and Apple's Find My iPhone app will let you hunt it down as long as you're within Bluetooth range.

To start, you'll need both iOS 10.3 and the Find My iPhone app.

How to find missing AirPods earbuds

Note: This feature is primarily to locate individual missing AirPods earbuds — the AirPods case itself doesn't have speakers, and the earbuds themselves won't make a sound until they come within range of your iPhone.

1.Open (or download, if you don't yet have it) Find My iPhone.

2.with your iCloud account.

3.Tap on the entry for your AirPods.

4.Select Actions.

5.Press Play Sound.

6. Both earbuds will start making a triplicate chirp — quietly at first, then increasing in volume. If you're trying to find just one of the buds, you can mute the left or right earbud to focus in on finding the other earbud.

Still can't find your earbuds?

If your missing AirPods earbud is out of charge, you may be out of luck in locating it via the Find My iPhone app. That said, you can still go about finding it the old-fashioned way — back-tracking where you had them previously.

And if you've exhausted all other options, you can always pay a lost AirPods fee to Apple to get a new earbud — it's just $69 per lost bud.

Best smartphones 2017: The best phones available to buy today

So, you want to buy a new phone? If you're looking for the best smartphone of 2017, you've come to the right place. We will guide you through the hottest mobile phones of the year to save you time when you go to your local phone shop.
We continually update this best smartphones guide to reflect recent launches, recognise price changes, and ensure 2017's latest devices appear alongside the best of 2016 (and before, if applicable). All the listed devices have been fully reviewed by us.
At the moment we're in a period of flux with a full refresh of phones about to launch, so this list will be changing a lot over the next weeks and months.
Of course, the most important factor in buying a new device is making sure you have the best smartphone for you. The best for your budget, the features you need, the size that feels right and platform that suits you best.
Our top recommendation
Here's our recommendation for the best all round smartphone on the market, right now.

1. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Buy for £519 from Amazon UK, $597 from Amazon US
The flat SGS7 handset is certainly one of the most appealing devices out there, but the S7 edge pips it to the post, taking pole position as the most desirable handset around. The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge fuses power with performance, offering a 5.5-inch display with a Quad HD resolution and plenty of punch, but differentiating itself with those curved edges.
The build quality matches the best of the handsets out there and the addition of a microSD card slot makes this handset all the more practical, while the bigger size over the SGS7 gives more space for battery. It's slick and fast and every inch the flagship experience, topped-off with a slick fingerprint scanner and a camera to deliver the whole smartphone package.

Best of the rest...
The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge isn't for everyone though, and there are plenty of other great smartphones on the market to consider whatever budget you are on. Here are the ones that you should also look at:

2. Google Pixel

Buy Pixel for £699 from Amazon UK, $705 from Amazon US
Buy Pixel XL for £793 from Amazon UK, $989 from Amazon US
Google comes out all guns blazing with two new phones, the Pixel and the larger Pixel XL. Both devices offer the same specs, performance and experience with one difference: screen size. The regular Pixel has a 5-inch Full HD display, while the Pixel XL has a larger 5.5-inch Quad HD display.
Launching with a number of exclusive features, but otherwise a clean version of Android, the Pixel phones have a solid build and a fast and smooth experience. The cameras are superb and the battery life is good, leading to a premium Android experience. The price is a little high, however, and they lack microSD or waterproofing. They even have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

3. OnePlus 3T

Buy from Amazon UK, $433 from Amazon US
The OnePlus 3T is one of the best smartphones on the market this year, especially at its £399 price point. As with its predecessors, the OnePlus 3T offers incredible value for money. It has many of the same features and specifications as smartphones twice its price and its recent launch sees it as one of the most powerful handsets available.
The all-metal finish is sleek and sturdy, making it feel like a genuinely premium device and the display is fantastic too, even if it isn't Quad HD resolution. The company may have shied away from the "flagship killer" branding this year, but the OnePlus 3T lays down the marker for what you can get for just under £400.

4. Samsung Galaxy S7

Buy for £460 from Amazon UK, $509 from Amazon US
The Samsung Galaxy S7 takes what the SGS6 started and refines it. It tweaks the design slightly, adds IP68 water and dust protection and brings the microSD card back. Internally, there's plenty of power for a slick performance from the Exynos or Qualcomm chipset and 4GB of RAM, alongside a wonderfully vibrant Quad HD AMOLED display.
A wide range of functionality is offered through Samsung's TouchWiz beautifully optimised reworking of Android, while improved battery performance and a consistent and dependable camera give you the recipe for one of the most compelling smartphones on the market. It's out shined by the SGS7 edge version, but it's a solid performer none the less.

5. Apple iPhone 7

Buy for £617 from Amazon UK, $715 from Amazon US
The Apple iPhone 7 doesn't offer the overhaul in design that we are used to getting every two years, but there are enough developments to keep fans happy. The new flagship iPhone is more refined, offering the removal of the headphone jack in favour of stereo speakers, along with better hidden antennas and waterproofing.
It offers subtle changes to the iPhone 6S, such as a new Home button and glossy or matte black finish options, along with faster and slicker performance, as you would expect. Ultimately, the iPhone 7 is the company's best iPhone yet, as Tim Cook claimed, but the best is only slightly better than the iPhone 6S, which is why we've kept the older model in this list too.

6. Apple iPhone 7 Plus

Buy for £856 from Amazon UK, $929 from Amazon US
The Apple iPhone 7 Plus offers more new features to the iPhone party than its smaller sibling, but they come at a price, which is why this device sits a little lower down our list. Like the smaller device, the design sees refinement rather than overhaul, with Apple removing the headphone jack, hiding the antenna bars and adding waterproofing. The novelty comes in the form of a zoomed camera and the option for digital bokeh effects, but they might just be that - novelties.
It's a worthy upgrade from the iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6S Plus, with excellent and improved camera capabilities, along with power and battery performance. The iPhone 7 Plus is big and heavy, as the range always has been, but it is incredibly well-built, capable and well-rounded. It's just well expensive too with a starting price of £719.

7. HTC 10

Buy for £492 from Amazon UK, $527 from Amazon US
The HTC 10 addresses many of the criticisms of the HTC One M9, focusing on the things that matter in a smartphone, and ditching many of the distractions. The HTC 10 is built to the high quality standard you expect from HTC, and it's a handset that solid and serious.
The 5.2-inch display packs a Quad HD resolution, power comes from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB of RAM, while there is OIS on both the front and back cameras. The result is power, performance, great design and camera performance, held together with fuss-free software that's slick, fast and free from bloat.

8. Apple iPhone 6S

Buy for £490 from Amazon UK, $429.99 from Amazon US
The Apple iPhone 6S might have been succeeded by the iPhone 7, but it's still a great iPhone, especially at its slightly reduced starting price of £499. It doesn't offer waterproofing like the latest model, but it delivers a slick, fast experience and its 12-megapixel rear camera continues to produce some excellent results.
The iPhone 6S also introduced 3D Touch, Apple's version of a pressure sensitive display that is also found on the newer model. It's not unique, but the depth to which Apple has empowered this new feature stands it aside. It might not be the flagship iPhone anymore, but the iPhone 6S still offers the premium Apple experience.

9. Apple iPhone SE

Buy for £384 from Amazon UK, $429.95 from Amazon US
Fulfilling the requirements of those looking for a smaller iPhone, the iPhone SE is about as budget as Apple gets. Starting at £359, the iPhone SE punches into the mid-range, but the only thing mid-range about this phone is the display size.
The iPhone SE has all the power of the iPhone 6S, giving you speed and power that smaller phones often fail to give you. It's a full-bore iPhone experience that's pared with an excellent camera, offering the consistency you expect from Apple. For those after the Apple experience without the hole in their pocket, the iPhone SE is an excellent choice. It's also one of the best selling iPhones out there.

10. Huawei P9

Buy for £400 from Amazon UK, $451 from Amazon US
The Huawei P9 is a step above and beyond last year's P8. It has cleaner software, ample power, decent cameras, the best fingerprint scanner on the market, and a variety of features that successfully place it in among the flagship runnings.
There's still some questionable software additions though, the cameras are over-reaching in terms of software and the battery life still isn't that great. The P9 delivers solid innings, but its £449 starting price puts it very close to its competition and the P9 lacks those design nuances that set the flagship contenders apart.

11. Honor 8

Buy for £369 from Amazon UK, $299.99 from Amazon US
For a mid-level device, the Honor 8 lays down some solid specification benchmarks for its £370 price. As a day-to-day phone, the design and ability of this mid-ranger are considerable. It's an upgrade over the previous model that will give plenty of competitors a run for their money.
The battery life could be better, the processor performance lags a little at times and it doesn't offer the perfect graphics for gaming. That said, there is plenty of merit in the Honor 8, and its biggest problem isn't actually itself, but the competition it is up against, such as the OnePlus 3T that is only £30 more

New Apple headquarters in California - Open in April

The new Apple campus, dubbed “Apple Park,” will open in April, the iPhone maker said on Wednesday.
Although the first wave of employees will begin moving to the new headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., In the spring of the Northern Hemisphere, it will take about six months until all 12,000 workers make the transition, Apple said.
Apple also said it will name the company’s co-founder Steve Jobs to the theater for a thousand seats in the new futuristic venue. Jobs helped design the 708-thousand-square-foot campus before his death in 2011.

“Steve invested a lot of his energy creating and supporting vital and creative environments,” said Jony Ive, Apple’s design director, in a statement. “We are dedicated to designing, engineering and building our new campus with the same enthusiasm and design principles that characterize our products.”

Apple has paid close attention to every aspect of the campus, including the main building of more than 260,000 square meters, examining in detail even hidden areas such as wiring and pipes, Reuters reported earlier this month.

Apple’s high standards have contributed to delays in the project, former construction managers said. A door handle, for example, took at least a year and a half to be designed, according to a former construction manager. Apple unveiled plans for its new headquarters in 2011.
